Saranac Amber Wheat poured a semi-clear,
dark amber color with a finger width off-white head. The aroma has some very light malt, some wheat underneath and notes of citrus.
The body is malty up front with some orange flavor. The wheat comes in
towards the end, and the beer finishes with a yeastiness that leads in to a short finish that has a dry mouthfeel and
a very small sour twinge at the end. Saranac classifies this as a dunkelweizen,
which would make this a very light version of that style. There was no real yeast sediment in the bottle
and the color was fairly clear which is uncharacteristic of an unfiltered wheat beer. Overall, I have no
complaints on this beer. Amber Wheat has plenty of flavor and a relatively deep body with the middle palate
the best aspect. This is defiantly a beer to try during the warmer months.
