Ommegeddon was
released by Ommegang in 2007. The label says that it is a Funkhouse ale with brettanomyces. The beer poured a
cloudy, golden straw color with a big bubbly white head that dissipated quickly. The aroma had lots of yeast, and a
sweet smell of really ripe apples. The body was light, carbonated, with a slight sweetness and more green apples.
The finish was very delicate, crisp, and left just a bit of the funkiness on the tongue. The particular bottle that I had
was from Batch #1, June 2007 and it says to “cellar for 6 months for maximum enjoyment, cellar up to two years”.
The bottle I had sat for 16 months and really gave the beer time to round out, as I could hardly taste the high ABV.
It was really consistent in the body and the time allowed for the brett to find its place in the beer. Ommegang has
since said that the more recent batches of Ommegeddon have been cranked up with more brettanomyces.
